Reptilia was established in December 2006 in Vanderbijlpark, starting with a small selection of reptiles including snakes, spiders, and bearded dragons, along with basic food and accessories for local animal lovers.

In May 2016, Willem van der Westhuizen acquired Reptilia and led the business into a new phase of growth. Within the first year, the store moved to a larger premises, expanding both its reptile range and product offerings. Reptilia introduced a wider variety of exotic animals such as chinchillas, hedgehogs, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, sugar gliders, and more, while continuing to breed selected snakes, lizards, geckos, and bearded dragons.

The business further expanded in June 2019 with the move to an even larger, wheelchair-accessible location featuring improved parking, increased product selection, custom-built cages, and a broader range of reptiles, small animals, and pet supplies. Reptilia also operates a breeding program for feeder rodents to supply both its own animals and customers.

In 2018, Reptilia launched a community petting zoo, giving children the opportunity to interact with farm animals at no cost. Today, Reptilia is proud to offer one of the region’s most unique reptile exhibitions and remains committed to providing high-quality animals, products, and knowledgeable service to the community.
